5 Christmas Films in New York City & an Infographic

By Littlebckpacker @littlebckpacker

When I was sent this awesome infographic this week, I couldn’t quite believe the coincidence. I currently live in London and am planning and trip to New York but I also had plans to write a New York film post. I was delighted when I was asked to share this infographic with my readers. I absolutely love it and if you didn’t already have plans for a London/New York trip, it certainly gives you some good ideas.

Before I share this infographic with you, I’m going to talk about…

5 Christmas Films in New York City to watch before you go

Elf

This is one of my favorite Christmas films, full of humor and features several sites in New York including the Empire State Building, Central Park and the Rockefeller Centre (as stated below). The story is about Buddy, one of Santa’s elves who learns of his true identity as a human and goes to New York City to meet his father and spreads Christmas cheer in a world of cynics as he goes.

Miracle on 34th Street

This is a classic New York Christmas film it features the Thanksgiving Day parade and a lot of Macy’s (Herald Street as stated below) department store during Christmas and some brief shots of Central Park. The story is all about who is playing Santa Claus for the department store after finding the first one drunk. He directs people to stores other than Macy’s and the whole thing gets a little messy. It has been a while since I watch this one, but I certainly will be before I get to NYC in December.

Home Alone 2

This well known series is probably one of the most played on Sky Movies over the festive period. There certainly was a time when I knew them literally off by heart. This is the one where Kevin gets on the wrong plane, instead of going to Florida he ends up in New York City and you guessed it, meets his arch enemies again. Half of New York is featured in this film but highlights include The Plaza Hotel, Central Park, Rockefeller Centre, Radio City, Times Square and Battery Park. More info can be found here.

Serendipity

I’d never heard of this film but having read about it for the last five minutes, I’m very excited to actually watch it. Set in New York City about two people who meet shopping in Bloomingdale’s, they are instantly attracted to each other despite both being in other relationships. There seems to be a lot of coincidence in this film and searching for each, Central Park is also featured several times.

Scrooged

Again I’ve never heard of this one but it sounds good, a modern adaptations of Dickens’ Christmas Carol story. Set in New York City, this mostly features buildings and streets of the city, but if you aren’t the biggest Christmas fan then this might be one for you to watch.
