5 Best Wall Balls for Killer Workouts

By Jessicashaw

Wall balls are a killer tool for conditioning, speed, and building muscle. Here is a breakdown of the best wall balls.

Best Wall Balls for Working Out

Wall balls are one of my favorite all-time pieces of workout equipment.

The ways you can train with them are only limited by your imagination.

A form of medicine ball (click here if you want a full rundown of all the best medicine balls for training), wall balls are designed primarily to throw up against a wall (hence the name). They can also be used for passes, as their large size makes them easy to catch.

Wall balls are a critical part of my daily workouts. I use my Bells of Steel wall ball (which they sadly don’t sell anymore) for front squats as a tool for warming up for barbell squats. Lunge twists and Russian twists are other favorite exercises of mine that can be performed with these bad boys.

When looking for the right wall ball for you and your workouts, there are a few different things to consider:

🔑
Weight. Seems obvious, but heavier doesn’t always mean better. Medicine balls are generally used for ballistic movements, which are all about moving weight at high speeds. Too heavy, and you are going sluggish and slow.

🔑
Grip. For people who sweat a lot (like the author), grip is critical. Wall balls are usually made with a soft leather, nylon, or PVC material that makes holding onto them easier. Nobody wants a medicine ball to the face, after all.

🔑
Price. Medicine balls are a little bit all over the map when it comes to price, but they tend to cost in the $50-130 range depending on weight and brand.

Below I’ve complied a list of the best medicine wall balls that are currently on the market.

Read on, pick the right wall ball for you, and introduce some medicine ball lovin’ into your training.

Let’s do this.

Rogue Medicine Ball

⭐
Best heavy-duty wall ball

Rogue makes some of the toughest fitness gear on the planet. Their adjustable weight bench is the center-piece of my garage gym and countless home and commercial gyms use their stuff, from bumper plates to Olympic barbells. Although traditionally known for CrossFit, Rogue’s gear works for everyone, and their medicine balls kick all of the butts.

Available in 11 different weights, from as little as 4lb to a heavy-duty 30lbs, Rogue’s medicine balls are double-stitched with heavy-duty nylon to take a pounding on the daily in the gym. Wall balls are a staple of CrossFit workouts, so it’s no surprise that these balls are extremely well made and durable.

In terms of cost, Rogue’s gear has always trended towards the more expensive side of things. The 30lb balls, for example, are just over $120 (check Rogue’s website for current pricing and availability), although they do provide free shipping on some orders.

Amazon Basics Training Wall Ball

Amazon waded into the fitness equipment market over the past couple of years, with a range of gear including foam rollers, kettlebells and flat weight benches.

Their wall balls are wrapped tightly with a tough PVC leather material. Loops at the end of the stitching keeps the ball from loosening over time and makes storing the ball a piece of cake.

Amazon Basics sells these things in three different weights, from 10 to 25 pounds, with the latter costing around $50 (check Amazon for current pricing).

Built to last with a 12-month warranty, their walls balls are a brightly colored and well-designed ball that will take your workouts to the next level.

Day 1 Fitness Soft Wall Balls

Medicine balls are an awesome tool mainly for their versatility. Whether you want to squat, do chest passes, or perform wall balls, they are a guaranteed way to crank your workouts up to 11.

The Day 1 Fitness Wall Balls do the job perfectly. Available in a variety of weights/colors, from 6-30lbs, Day 1 Fitness’ medicine balls are also available in sets, covering all of your training needs.

With nearly 800 five-star ratings (and counting!), people love these things. So much so, in fact, that they are very frequently out of stock on Amazon (check Amazon for current availability and pricing).

J-Fit Wall Medicine Balls

With a heavy-duty vinyl outer shell, the J-Fit Wall Medicine Balls are perfect for doing wall balls. They are hand stuffed, with enough “bounce” to the ball that it will come back to you when you launch it up against the wall.

The outer layer gives enough grip that the ball won’t slip out of your hands when you are sweating all over it (as I am prone to do), and triple-stitching means the ball won’t fall apart over time. J-Fit sells these bad bopys in a range of weights, from 4-pounds up to a 30-pound model.

Price-wise, J-Fit’s stuff is always competitive, whether it’s their rubber hex dumbbells or plyometric boxes. The 30-pound wall ball retails for around $65 (check Amazon for current pricing and availability), which makes the J-Fit an excellent low-cost wall ball that still gets the job done.

Garage Fit Ballistic Wall Ball

Best 40lb medicine wall ball

Although not one of the big players in the home and garage gym market, the Garage Fit wall balls are built for heavy-duty use and are ready to rock and roll.

The outer layer is a soft, “grippy” faux leather that keeps the ball securely in your hands, no matter how sweaty you get during your workout. The durable stitching is perfect for keeping the ball packed together for extended use, and the hand-stuffing is balanced properly, making catching the ball a breeze.

Garage Fit sells these monsters in weight increments from 6lbs all the way up to a Godzilla-sized 40lbs.

Soft, durable, and built to take impact (but not slamming them—if you want a medicine ball for slamming pick up a slam ball, which are designed specifically for this purpose), Garage Fit’s medicine balls are also priced competitively (check Amazon for current pricing and availability).
