Missouri-based artist Kendra Werst has assembled her latest work titled Translation - a site-specific thread installation that is three-dimensional. Using colorful strands of thread affixed to the adjacent walls in the corner of a room, the strings weave in and out of a plexi-glass panel to create a sculptural structure.
Kendra’s piece is inspired by symbiosis – the reciprocal relationship between two organisms – but probably looks more like a cancerous cell.
She explains: “It is the visualization of this special relationship and the communication that takes place within interpersonal relationships that drives my creative process… Often I join planes by puncturing holes in the material and threading them together. This creates tension between parts that exemplifies the symbiosis.”
