My cats mean the world to me. I've been blessed to have had them for as long as we've had because we actually rescued them from a shelter. I say that because I've had many friends bring home sheltered cat and never really think of what's going to happen next. There are so many things that can go wrong but lucky for you, I have a few tips to helping your new shelter cat become acclimated to their new home, or rather, their new home. 
1. Provide A Small Area To Call Their Own- Cats are extremely territorial and coming into a new environment leaves them feeling really uneasy. There's so much to explore in their new space that they aren't sure what may be around every corner. Do them a favor and provide them a small area to call their own for a few days or weeks ( especially when introducing them to another cat in the home ). Furnish the room with a few cat items such as food, water and a litter box. You'll want to spend time with your new furry friend so make sure that it's as comfortable for you to enjoy as well.

3. Look At It From Your Cats Point Of View- I'm serious! Try and look at your home with a curious cat eye for climbing or exploring potential. When your cat becomes acclimated to your home, you may be surprised to find them on top of the upper kitchen cabinets ( Ellie was notorious for having that be her safe haven ) so make sure that there isn't anything on display there or on high shelves that could potential be damaged or hurtful to them.
