2012: A Year of Being Entertained: January to June

Posted on the 08 January 2013 by Kittyfairy @KittyFairy

Belated Happy New Year everyone. It was a relatively quiet affair here at Entertained HQ. But, we thought that this would be a great time to take a look back at the last twelve months. What were we watching, listening to and reading? What were we getting excited about?

January

Read:

Matched by Ally Condie
City of Glass by Cassandra Clare
City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare

Watched:

Skins
New Girl

Pondered:

Whether the new PS Vita was worth the trouble - we're still not entirely convinced!
Why Awards annoy me so much
What happened to the cast of animated series: Inspector Gadget: Inspector Gadget Penny Brain

  •

Got Excited About:

Napoleon Dynamite: Animated Series
Benedict Cumberbatch being cast in the - still - upcoming Star Trek film
The Three Stooges Re-Make (okay, this was more Chris than me...!)
Predicting the Top Films of 2012
Celebrating the Top Films of 2011

February

Pondered:

The Top geeks that have appeared in films - although most of them probably couldn't be classed as "real" geeks...more geek chic perhaps!
The Bafta Rising Star Award, as sponsored by Orange Wednesday

Got Excited About:

The re-release of Star Wars I: Phantom Menace at the Cinema

Evidently, March was a very quiet month!!

March

Watched:

Bridesmaids - Hated it!
The Hunger Games - Loved it!
Chris watched The Hunger Games too!!!

Pondered:

NBC's intention to re-make hit British women's prison drama Bad Girls
The closure of Game - in the end many Game stores re-opened, although Gamestation, who were also owned by Game remained closed.
Michael Bay's re-make of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, who weren't going to be Mutant or perhaps even Turtles...time can only tell!
What the point was to Johnny Depp/Tim Burton film Dark Shadows - still not really sure!

Listened To:

The Hunger Games Score

Got Excited About:

Harald Zwart being named as directed of the first Mortal Instruments film, that is due out later this year.

April

Read:

Die For Me by Amy Plum - I sort-of liked the idea, but it was a bit wishy-washy and silly.
Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare - a spin-off from Clare's popular Mortal Instruments books, this wasn't a patch on the originals.
Being Elizabeth Bennet by Emma Campbell Webster - Well, I no longer need to read any Jane Austen, so that saved me a lot of energy ;)

Pondered:

The Strongest Female Leading Ladies in Hollywood
Francis Lawrence taking over the helm of Catching Fire, after Gary Ross' fantastic job on The Hunger Games
The Total Recall re-make - Chris was definitely right on this one...we'll stick to the original.
The collaboration between Square Enix's popular Final Fantasy characters and fashion house Prada...seriously, why? what? how? We're still not really sure!
The myths that surround the film industry...and the actual reality behind them.
Ashton Kutcher taking the role to play Steve Jobs in an upcoming biopic.

Got Excited About:

The number of superhero flicks taking over the Cinema in 2012
The film teasers that baffled, confused and got us excited over the past few years.

May

Watched:

Marvel's Avengers, which blew me mind
Marvel's Avengers, which Chris kinda liked too.

Read:

Juliet Naked by Nick Hornby
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins - it was interesting to re-read this after having seen the film.
City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare - Like the spin-off, the fifth book in the Mortal Instruments trilogy (!) was a bit of a let down.

Pondered:

The best Studio Ghibli films

Got Excited About:

The first trailer for Baz Luhrmann's Great Gatsby film.
The first images from soon-to-be-released Les Miserables.
The idea of owning a piece of land used to film District 12 in The Hunger Games film.

June

Another quiet month...

Read:

Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption by Stephen King - having loved the film, I decided to read the novella and it was definitely worth it!
The Help by Kathryn Stockett - I'm always divided by this book, I do love it and it was a very good read, but another part makes me wish that the black characters had been written by a black woman. However, the book was a lot better than the film!

Got Excited About:

The first poster and trailer for the Perks of being a Wallflower
The Les Miserables teaser trailer

Coming up: 2012: A Year of Being Entertained - July to December
