Two brothers meet at the border of their vast cattle properties under the unrelenting sun of outback Queensland, in this stunning new standalone novel from New York Times bestseller Jane Harper

They are at the stockman’s grave, a landmark so old, no one can remember who is buried there. But today, the scant shadow it casts was the last hope for their middle brother, Cameron. The Bright family’s quiet existence is thrown into grief and anguish. Something had been troubling Cameron. Did he lose hope and walk to his death? Because if he didn’t, the isolation of the outback leaves few suspects…

Dark, suspenseful, and deeply atmospheric, The Lost Man is the highly anticipated next book from the bestselling and award-winning Jane Harper, author of The Dry and Force of Nature.

#WRC2019 The Lost Man by Jane Harper I was super excited to find out that I had been selected to be included in the BookSparks’ Winter Reading Challenge 2019 (#WRC2019)!  Today’s post is about the second book of the challenge  – The Lost Man by Jane Harper.

I had never read anything by Jane Harper before, but ….. spoiler alert here …. I’ll be going back to read her other writings for sure!

The story in The Lost Man by Jane Harper is this:  Cameron Bright is found dead out in the middle of his Australian cattle station. He apparently died from dehydration. There’s not a sensible reason to explain why the Cameron was dead and found there.  Cam’s car is in perfect working order, and strangely it is found just too far away for him to have been able to walk to it, or to be able to access the radio and the life-saving food and water contained in it.

The author manages to provide readers with a slow reveal of family secrets, their family history, their dynamics, and a gradually changing view of their relationships.  Nathan is Cam’s divorced older brother, who lives alone three hours away and his son, Xander, is home for the Christmas holiday.  Also included is Cam’s younger brother, Bub.

The author spoon feeds readers with clues and backstories in nice and small bites. We slowly get to see further into each of the brothers, as well as their father.

This book grabbed me and I had to force myself to put it down and get to work. I almost wanted to call in sick just to finish the story. The compelling nature of the story makes The Lost Man a quick read too. I loved the depth and the dynamics of each of the characters too.  Last but definitely not least, readers were provided with a great ending that was very satisfying! I would highly recommend this book to others!
