In 1979, Daisy Jones and The Six split up. Together, they had redefined the 70’s music scene, creating an iconic sound that rocked the world. Apart, they baffled a world that had hung on their every verse.

This book is an attempt to piece together a clear portrait of the band’s rise to fame and their abrupt and infamous split. The following oral history is a compilation of interviews, emails, transcripts, and lyrics, all pertaining to the personal and professional lives of the members of the band The Six and singer Daisy Jones.

While I have aimed for a comprehensive and exhaustive approach, I must acknowledge that full and complete accounts from all parties involved has proved impossible. Some people were easier to track down than others, some were more willing to talk than others, and some, unfortunately, have passed on.

All of which is to say that while this is the first and only authorised account from all represented perspectives, it should be noted that, in matters both big and small, reasonable people disagree.

The truth often lies, unclaimed, in the middle.

Two more books to report on as part of the BookSparks Winter Reading Challenge 2019 (#WRC2019)!! Can’t believe it went by so quickly, but I’m really happy this book – Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid – was included.  The story is basically about a fictional rock band in the 1970’s – their rise through the ranks of the LA music scene – eventually becoming one of the most legendary bands in the world.  If it were that simple, this would be an average book, so amp that up a zillion percent and know that this book, this story, is AWESOME!

Even though the rock band is fictional, I kept forgetting that – it seemed so real.  Daisy Jones & The Six was a band about sex, drugs, and rock n roll. I’m not saying the book is all about those things, I’m saying it mentions doing drugs, promiscuous sex and sex with questionably aged females. If these are “triggers” for anyone – no worries – there aren’t any specific details of these things to freak anyone out.  It’s just the time, the era.

The author uses a documentary style format to tell the story of this fictional rock band – and not the “same ole, same ole” story, either. Don’t expect to read about a band rising to fame and then falling.  Every single band member comes alive in this book with their own unique personality and path to take. There’s a fictional band with a fictional backstory and they even have a fictional playlist!

The rock band – The Six – a group of young people wanting to make it in the music industry by playing at local bars and dives. They decide to head out to LA (of course) to make their dreams come true  They cross paths with a young, wild, hippy kind of gal, Daisy Jones,  who is wise beyond her years.  She becomes their lead singer and song writer, and they all take readers on a journey into their professional and personal lives.
