Women’s Rights? Not in Chile

By Cilaw

I’ve long cherished a desire to visit Chile, based mostly on a huge affection for their fine wines and excellent techno music. This Guardian column took a lot of the wind out of my fancy-free sails. A country where a woman cannot have an abortion for ANY reason — including to protect her own life? A country where sex education and contraception are functionally unavailable? Um, no thanks.

One of the things I most deplore about the States is its self-righteous, ass-backwards attitude towards a woman’s right to manage her health (Newt being the most recent case in point). That Chile manages to be even more fucked-up in this regard is a dubious accomplishment.
