Wingham’s Black Diamonds Make the World’s Most Expensive Dress

By Raymondleejewelers @raymondleejwlrs

Debbie Wingham started in fashion at the tender age of 13, but we’d bet even her wild teenage imagination didn’t predict she’d one day create a dress from black diamonds worth an estimated 5.6 million dollars.

Debbie Wingham's $5.6 Million Black Diamond Dress

Wingham introduced her dazzlingly daring diamond dress at the Ukraine Fashion Week. Officially first displayed at the Monte Carlo Billionaire’s Club, the Ukraine Fashion Week marked the first time the general public saw this masterpiece. Created from two-carat black diamonds, fifty of them to be exact, the dress is no lightweight; it tips the scales at 29 pounds. Debbie Wingham sewed the dress herself, requiring six months of hand-finishing and painstaking attention to detail. Half of the diamonds line the peplum, while the shoulder shrug and bustier sport the remainder of the dazzling diamond hardware.

Wingham’s Black Diamonds Make the World’s Most Expensive Dress

Wingham’s masterpiece has been certified by the World Record Academy as the World’s Most Expensive Dress. While there are many other competing uber-expensive gowns, they are divided into sub-categories like most expensive cocktail dress, prom dress, and wedding dress. It seems there is no shortage of designers jockeying to make a dress no one can afford to buy.

Debbie learned her craft from her mother, who shared her attention to detail and sewing skills with her daughter. The young designer moved from South Yorkshire to London when she was 18, started at Greenwich market and eventually opened a boutique of her own. Her big break came in 2005, when her dresses were spotted at the BAFTA awards and celebrities started lining up to wear her designs.

Wingham created her latest gown as an anthem for the beautiful woman, a tribute to the love of life, and all the sparkle that goes along with it. Anyone lucky enough to shoulder this sparkling beauty will surely look and feel the beauty contained within.
