Win A Copy Of ‘Kitchen Garden Experts’

By David Marsden @anxiousgardener

Here at Anxious Gardener International (East Sussex Div.), I just love to give.  Why, I’m practically a charity.  Here’s one of two books I’ll be giving away this month.

DSM_3996

Kitchen Garden Experts‘ by Cinead McTernan features the chefs and head gardeners at twenty leading UK restaurants, hotels, pubs and cafés.  It details how fruit and vegetables are grown in the gardens, prepared in the kitchens and served to customers.  This isn’t just a cookbook – the gardens feature just as much as the kitchens.  The twenty chefs include: Raymond Blanc and Anne-Marie Owens at Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons; Gill Meller at River Cottage; Sir Terence Conran at Barton Court; Ruthie Rogers at River Café; and Jack Stein at Padstow Kitchen Garden.

Illustrated with Jason Ingram’s photographs, ‘Kitchen Garden Experts’ is full of gardening tips, as well as forty recipes.  There are plenty of ideas for you to try at home, special growing methods and some delicious looking/sounding meals.  I will say that I found some of the dishes a little heavy on style over substance.  Whilst I’m sure the food is marvellous, I did think a handful suffered from too much presentation and not enough actual food on the plate.  (But then this is an issue close to my heart … or is it my stomach?  See my last post).

Justin Hammett, from the Royal Opera House, does serve decent portions.  Here’s a meal I’d want to sit down to after a day’s mowing and hoeing.  And I wouldn’t share it either.

And this photo of Stephen Doherty’s dessert had me clawing at the page.  This is my sort of pudding:  baked gooseberries (fresh from the garden) with lemon verbena ice cream AND (were that not enough) flapjack.  Good for you, Stephen.

Kitchen Garden Experts‘ has just been published by Frances Lincoln and retails at £20.00.  But if you would like to win your very own, very shiny, free copy (to keep!) here’s all you need to do:

leave a reply/comment to this post saying that you wish to enter

And that’s all.

The closing date is midnight on Tuesday 20th May.  I shall draw the winner out of my
