I have been stumbling my way along on my blog here for under two years. What started out as a mommy blog and discussing the color of my children’s poo to what finger snacks were best for weaning, the blogs direction changed.

The blog became a voice for others, an open and honest view on many of the taboo topics in today’s world.

To be honest, I have no idea what “type” of blogger I am, I’m not sure there is a niche I fit into

I have been thinking a lot lately; don’t be surprised, I often think and I came to the conclusion that my blog must not be of any interest to advertisers, it must suck big time

So many mommy blogs have reviews and sponsored posts and text advertising links coming out of their ears, I felt a touch of envy and disappointment as they are also the blogs who have the stream of sponsors too

Now while I do not want my blog to become an advertising circus, I was somewhat upset that I have yet ever to be even asked if I have any advertising space available on the blog

I read many blogs, still mainly in the mommy blogging sector; I do have 6 kids you know. What surprised me is the large number of “mummy blogs” who had more than a small handful of sponsored adverts on their side bar – these guys are charging anything from £25 – £150 per month for each advert and when you have 10-15 ads that’s some serious cash being made

So where am I going wrong? I asked myself  Why can’t I turn my blog into a full time business?

I even contemplated dropping the whole “mental illness” talk as I feared maybe my bipolar was scaring away potential sponsors or the fact they could see posts about “real life issues” and thought this was not the correct look to have their goods running alongside

And then I thought ….

If I changed the feel and topics of my blog, I would be doing something with the pure intention of changing to be more beneficial to others. I would have to write about boring stuff I had no desire for.My writing would be dull as I would have no passion for the blog. I may aswell not blog at all as I would no longer want to write.

What is my blog worth?

I know that I inspire many, I offer a voice to those unable to find theirs and my heart and soul goes into what I write about here on the blog. These are everyday parenting blogs, the difference is I am able to openly talk about “taboos” without fear from what others will think. I can talk about domestic violence as easily as I can about potty training.

I have never followed suit, I am not your ordinary mommy blogger and that I feel is my biggest asset

I now know that no amount of sponsors asking if my blog has any advertising space is important.  This does not mean my blog is seen as useless or not in the same league as others out there. I doubted my own abilities as a blogger because of this.

My blogs focus is to help others and I have reminded myself it is the reason I started this blog in the first, so in reality I have achieved my goal without realising it.
