Posted on the 14 January 2015 by Nrjperera @nrjperera

Linux has been the choice of operating system of the geeks and nerds, but not anymore. With more Linux distributions releasing than Windows 8 updates, now even a child could use a Linux OS without needing expert knowledge. If you’re still using either the discontinued Windows XP, the old Windows 7 or the buggy Windows 8, you are making a horrible mistake. Read along to find out why.

Windows Getting Bloated

Windows used to be very simple and fast. But now, it comes loaded with bloatware that it takes several minutes to even boot up the computer. Clean OS tests will show Win 8 to be faster, but try the tests after loading up your computer with all the data and software’s to see what really happens.

On the other hand, Linux distro’s have always been relying low on system resources, giving more space for running apps faster. Which is a necessity, now more than ever. Distro’s like Linux Mint, Ubuntu always lets you choose between clean OS installs or full loaded with free apps.

Rise of the Web Apps

Lack of powerful software’s used to be a drawback of Linux operating systems. But now, with apps such as Google Docs, Dropbox, Pixlr, and even Microsoft Office running on the cloud, it’s no longer a problem.

Web apps are the future of computer software’s. For example, the Chrome Web Store now has an increasingly large number of apps and extension that allows you to do all your work from your browser. There are so many alternatives, you will forget all about Windows in no time.

Support for Gaming

PC gamers don’t have to worry about leaving their games when switching to a Linux OS anymore. Thanks to Steam, many new and high-quality video games are now slowly making their way to Linux computers. The Witcher 2, Civilization V, Metro Redux, The Xcom: Enemy Unknown are only a few of the awesome games for Linux available on Steam right now.

Steam CEO, Gabe Newell has big plans for the Linux platform. He calls it the “the future of gaming.” Even big time game developers are now taking Linux as a platform seriously than ever.
