Why is Cyprus worth seeing?

What appeared to the eyes of the beauty goddess as she emerged from the sea foam? The answer is - Cyprus! It was here, according to an ancient myth, that Aphrodite appeared. To this day, Cyprus is due to this legend called the Island of Love, and lovers from different parts of the world go down to its beaches.

Places worth paying attention

Aphrodite's Rock, or Petra Tou Romiou, is one of the biggest attractions of this charming island in the Mediterranean near Turkey. It's easy to find when traveling to the western tip of Cyprus towards Paphos, the fourth largest city. Paphos, due to the multitude of monuments, has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It was here that marble sculptures of the goddess Artemis and Asklepios and treasures of the reign of Alexander the Great were discovered. Famous mosaics can also be seen here. There are many more attractions and on the map of your journey you must also mark the largest Cypriot city, i.e. Nicosia with its both parts: Greek and Turkish. Let's add to this Kolossi - a medieval fortress, Troodos churches, and for nature lovers observing turtles on beautiful, wild beaches.

If you are tired of noisy resorts, you can decide to visit smaller towns. Although you can also find many tourists here, it is a great opportunity, e.g. to buy original souvenirs. An example is Lefkara, which is famous for lace products. Their lace-making traditions are so valued that in 2009 they were inscribed on the UNESCO list of intangible heritage.

An island full of cats

Staying on the island is also a treat for cat lovers - in Cyprus you can meet them at every turn, There are two characteristic breeds here: Aphrodite cats, also called Cypriot mountain cats and Saint Helena cats. Aphrodite cats are very few, representatives of this second breed are much more common. And what connections does Saint Helena have with those furry quadrupeds? Legend has it that it was she who brought the cats to the island to help fight the venomous snakes harassing these areas at that time.

Cyprus Worth Seeing?

Weather is also encouraging to visit Cyprus. If you didn't manage to go on holiday in Cyprus in July or August, nothing is lost - in early autumn Cyprus is still warm and sunny. A holiday in Poland at this time is associated with the risk of cold and rainy days that can effectively spoil your vacation.

Importantly, Cyprus has been a member of the European Union for 10 years, so you can easily pay in euros there. The journey itself should not be too tiring - a direct plane from Warsaw will arrive in just 3.5 hours. Flights from Krakow or Gdansk already require a change.
