Why 3 Idiots is More Than Just Entertainment: Valuable Lessons for Personal Growth

3 Idiots is more than just a movie - it's a masterpiece that has managed to leave an impact on millions of people. From its heart touching dialogues to its amazing screenplay and relatable characters, this movie has managed to capture the hearts of many.
As someone who has watched the movie several times, I can confidently say that it's one of the most inspiring movies out there. Here are some of the most important lessons that I have learned from watching 3 Idiots.
Money Can't Buy You Happiness, Really?

The age-old adage that "money can't buy happiness" is true, but there's a catch. Money can buy you the things that can make you happy. In other words, having more money can lead to a happier life to some extent. However, it's not necessary to have your own money to be happy. The character of Rancho, played by Aamir Khan, is a perfect example of this. For him, happiness was about gaining knowledge, and he was able to do that even though the money wasn't his own.

Have and Follow Your Innate Desires

As humans, we often lose ourselves in the loud noise that we create. Many of us seek validation and get judged by people who aren't even like us or who haven't had the same experiences as us. This leads to a toxic and hypocritical culture where every action is judged.

The character of Raju Rastogi, played by Sharman Joshi, perfectly portrays this inner fear and vulnerability that many of us feel. But ultimately, he realizes that the life he was living wasn't worth it.

It's important to understand your passion and nurture it. Each character in the movie had a desire or passion for something. Pursuing your passion can lead to a happier and more fulfilling life.

Fear is Not Good for Grades, TRUE!

Fear is one of the biggest roadblocks to achieving our goals in life. The only thing that stops a person from doing anything in life is fear. Unfortunately, fear is deeply ingrained in our minds by our parents, relatives, friends, and society in general. We often miss out on opportunities and experiences because we are afraid of the consequences.

Detach Your Minds and See the Wonders It Can Do

To overcome fear, we need to take action. The answer lies in three simple words - "do it anyway." When we take action despite our fears, we realize that the fear was unfounded in the first place.

Society has a way of telling us what we should do in life - get a degree, get married, have kids, and settle down. However, this is not the only path to happiness. People with burning desires, passions, and dreams are often laughed at and crushed under the weight of hypocrisy, ego, and greed. Rancho was able to achieve wonders because he was not bound by these societal pressures. He was able to focus on his passion and excel at it.

Change Yourself, and the People Will Change Themselves

Change is inevitable, and the only constant is change. The way you look at the world is a reflection of who you are from the inside. The world is a reflection of your thoughts and perceptions that have been built inside you since birth.
Changing your patterns, unlearning and learning new things is what is needed to enjoy every phase of life. It's not your basic nature that needs to change, but the learnings from your experiences that need to change.
Observe, Observe, Observe

Observation is a powerful tool that often goes overlooked. In the movie 3 Idiots, we see the protagonist, Rancho (Aamir Khan), use his observation skills to great effect. For example, when he notices Pia's (Kareena Kapoor) watch, he deduces that it belonged to her mother.

However, in our own lives, we often fail to observe even the most basic details. We get lost in our own thoughts and miss out on opportunities to learn and grow. Even when we do observe, we may not always use that knowledge at the right time.

To become better observers, we can start by consciously practicing observation in our daily lives. This means paying attention to the world around us and taking note of the details. We can also try to use our observations to draw connections and make deductions, like Rancho did with Pia's watch.
These are my learnings from the movie. What are your thoughts? Do share your take in the comments section below.
