Whoops: Mayor Of New York Fails To Register His Own .NYC Domain: Billdeblasio.NYC

This goes right to the you can’t make this stuff up file.

Crainsnewyork.com,  published a post today chatting about how the the Mayor of New York City, Bill de Blasio, who has been touting “the new .nyc domain names as “a unique opportunity” for New Yorkers “to own who they are online,” did not buy what he was selling.”

“Records show that billdeblasio.nyc was purchased by Thomas Anderson, a digital developer at Publishers Clearing House with no ties to the mayor. ”

Mr. Anderson bought the domain name at auction for $10, meaning that his was the only bid. ”

The perceived lack of interest from the mayor has surprised the little-known buyer.”

No one from City Hall has been in touch,” said Mr. Anderson. “I was actually suspecting someone from Christine Quinn’s team or even the [Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association] to be contacting me.”

But the mayor does seem to want the name.

He is the only member of his family to take a powder on .nyc.

Chirlane.nyc, chiaradeblasio.nyc and dantedeblasio.nyc are all registered to Spearhead Digital, an agency that specializes in digital campaigns for progressive politicians. A de Blasio campaign spokesman confirmed that the firm manages those domains on behalf of the de Blasios.

The spokesman claimed that the mayor’s whiff on billdeblasio.nyc was caused by confusion about the auction process.””

You would have thought that the city of New York would have reserved that domain or at least Neustar should have reserved for the Mayor to protect him and the .NYC extension from exactly this embarrassing situation.

However that did not happen.

Pretty Amazing.

Priceless.
