Little Mr A has always been a big fan of Jake and the Neverland Pirates on Disney Junior, so was delighted a couple of weeks ago when he received a brand new game, Who Shook Hook, to review.

Made by Esdevium Games, Who Shook Hook is a game of skill and concentration for 2-4 players aged 4 plus.

The idea of the game is simple, place Captain Hook on the hammock with all of the treasure around him.  Choose your character and place them on any square on the game board.  The youngest player then spins the counter.  What treasure they need to take from the hammock and what tool to use is determined by the square landed on.  Whoever knocks Hook of his hammock is the loser.

Included in the box is one playing board; one numbered spinner; four character playing pieces; one Captain Hook; two palm trees; one hammock with two different sized elastic bands for extra difficulty; plastic sword, fishing pole, spade and tweezers for grabbing the treasure; three barrels, three Tiki heads, three money bags and three treasure chests of varying colours.

When the game arrived Little Mr A was very excited and couldn’t wait to have a go!  Big Mr A set up the game quickly and they had a try!  The game is great fun but we did need the rules to hand for the first few plays to work out what the different squares meant.

All of the pieces are really well made and I think it will stand up to a lot of play.  The Captain Hook is great quality and if you have any other Jake toys you could happily use him alongside them.

Although the rules of the game are simple, grabbing the treasure with the various tools can be tricky and therefore I do think the age of 4+ is appropriate, I don’t think younger children would be able to play it very well without a lot of assistance.

The game is great for helping children with their hand eye coordination, concentration, number skills and learning to share and take turns.

We are really enjoying playing this game and I can see it being a favorite for a long time to come!  We would highly recommend it to any Jake and the Neverland Pirate fans – you won’t be disappointed!

If you are looking for something a little more girly, Esdevium have also recently released a great looking Princess game, Dazzling Princess, which has been reviewed by the lovely Angela over at The Life of Spicers, why not take a look!
