Whiskey Wednesday: My Favorite Scotch

By Fitnspicy @fitnspicy

I don’t know a lot of other women who drink scotch. I don’t know a lot of other women like me in general. I’m a bit of an outlier, I am 99% sure that I was a 60 year old guy in a past life. Seriously. My love of scotch, travel, baseball, football, historical fiction, naps, cigars and the list could go on and on. While I do have a girly side that loves clothes, shoes, and makeup I have this very low key side that likes things a 30 something woman doesn’t normally like.

And to make that love of scotch even stranger, I like Islay scotch. Even some of the hardcore scotch drinkers don’t like Islay. But I am all about the peaty, smoky style of scotch. In fact; my mantra is Bring on the Peat.

Islay (pronounced EYE-lah) is an island off the coast of Scotland, and it has had it’s up and downs. While I’ve never been there I WILL get there one day. And just to visit my favorite distilleries.

So what’s in my glass?

Ardbeg 10 Year

Laphroaig Quarter Cask (this is a specialty bottle, with even more peaty, smoky flavor)

Black Bottle (this is a mix of whiskey from many of the distilleries on Islay, and at only $18 a bottle this is more of a have a glass whenever I want versus a special occasion)

I use a highball glass to drink it and prefer my scotch neat (no ice) but still chilled. And I was recently sent Balls of Steel to try (get your mind out of the gutter). You freeze these and put them in your class to help chill your drink without watering it down.

The teeny tiny thongs make me smile. What’s not to love about that? Best part about these- they support testicular cancer research.
