Whiskey Fried Classic

By Bigcitylittleblog @feakins

This Saturday, we attended the "Whiskey Fried Classic" in Greenpoint, Brooklyn- home of the hipsters, whiskey lovers, and everything deep-fried. We're not necessarily the biggest lovers of whiskey, but with over 100 varieties to choose from, we knew we'd be converted by day's end.

Our first stop was the booth, which had three different kinds of whiskey for us to try. Our favorite was the Waitsburg Bourbon: a fresh and fruity blend perfect for a novice whiskey drinker like me. Another favorite was George Dickel , a Tennessee Whiskey hailing from just 30 minutes south of Louisville. Their featured florescent green cocktail Dickeled Cucumber (George Dickel Rye, aged white wine vinegar, cucumber, and fresh lemon) was to die for. This cocktail matched any cucumber martini I've ever had, and I had to go back for seconds!

Whiskey Fried brought some amazing food vendors to the table as well. Jacobs Pickles of the Upper West Side served delicious pickled vegetables -carrots, string beans, and cucumbers- with a Pickleback shot to wash it all down. Burnside Biscuits , a new BBQ hotspot in Astoria that's been the recent talk of the town, arguably had the busiest booth. They served chicken 'n waffles so savory that guests lined up for them all day long.

After all that salt and savor, we needed a little sweet to cleanse our palette. So glad to find Tipsy Scoop, we chatted with the owner, Melissa, who was serving Dark Chocolate Whiskey Salted Caramel and Vanilla Bean Bourbon. Sold all over New York City, we know anytime we need an ice cream fix, this is certainly the place to go.

Additional vendors included Hot Sauce who were giving out free bottles, a photo booth, and all the BBQ pulled pork and chicken of your dreams.

We were lucky enough to score special passes to the V.I.P. lounge, so we headed there for specialty cocktails (courtesy of Makers Mark) at the end of the day. The bartender was creating custom cocktails with your choice of muddled fruit. We went with blackberries, raspberries, and watermelon for another fruity, refreshing whiskey drink.

Keep an eye out for the "Whiskey Fried Classic" as they are making way to Denver, Seattle, Chicago, and more. It's equally perfect for a date night with your man or trying some new drinks with a couple of you friends- a guaranteed fun time!
