What Was Your Favorite Part of Building the MindMeld API?

Peek behind the curtain at Expect Labs, and find out what our engineering team enjoyed the most about building the MindMeld API.

TRANSCRIPT:

The coolest part that I’ve worked on was the ability for us to go out and spider your own content and so that we can show that to you in a contextual way.

My favorite part of working on the MindMeld API was providing the developers the ability to customize ranking and choose content sources that most suitable for the application they are building.

The aspect that I enjoyed the most in building API is the focus on natural language understanding because that’s something that I have always been passionate about since I discovered that you can program computers to pretend to understand aspects of human language. I remember one of my first programming assignments was count the As, count the number of As. Obviously you graduate from working with letters to words to sentences to meaning to true context and pragmatics. If you are really good at it, you can pass even pass the Turing test so the MindMeld platform is obviously a beginning towards. It’s a very interesting area to work in, and it’s not just for English. As we extend the MindMeld platform to support multiple languages, it’s also fascinating to discover or validate empirically what aspects of natural language understanding are unique to a language and what components are generic across all languages.
