Landlords come in one of two ways. They are either helpful, welcoming and possess that ‘couldn’t do enough for you’ persona… or they are awkward, stroppy and unreasonable. I certainly know which box I’d tick! So if you are looking to rent, please don’t worry too much there are still lovely Landlords waiting… but here I will provide you some information on how to avoid the not so pleasant.

So who will be looking to rent? Young couples that can’t afford a mortgage, students and families that may be struggling. Three groups of quite vulnerable people who do not want to be ripped off, be exposed to unreliable appliances, pests and dodgy electricity.

In the Birmingham area there are many affordable and reliable upstanding citizens that would be more than happy to become your new landlord. Blossoms Lettings based in Solihull and Birmingham specialise in student, professional and ‘personal’ living; the company is owned by a respectful couple and has an excellent reputation.

With houses, flats and executive rooms close to the train stations and the city centre; it is the perfect location. With outstanding reviews Blossoms has an excellent reputation for their homes’ cleanliness, reliability, comfort and the maintaining of “easy living”. The award winning homes also offer private gardens and 24 hour service for tenants!

See Blossoms has its own website, reviews and everything you need to know, also recognised by authorities! You must make sure that the private landlords are accredited and reliable with proof you can see.

Ok so the landlord must have noted by local authorities that they are official secure and safe, without this proof; advisory to steer clear. The clearance from the authorities must contain information about previous abilities to manage a number of rented properties and the various people residing there. They must be able to keep their properties to a satisfactory if not better standard; as the expectancies of the landlord tend to rise over time with the bar being set; yet again by the local council. You must always check that whenever these standards have been raised or whenever more tenants bring business; how well they have coped.

Perhaps all this does sound pretty obvious but you would be surprised at how many ‘vulnerable’ people get clawed in. You must always be aware of what you have paid and where you are with your payments; the Landlord must be reliable and sometimes sympathetic to any personal situations.

This is all best to clear up with a current resident under the private landlord; there words will usually always be gospel. As mentioned for Blossoms; they have testimonials that are exposed to the public; these are really what matters.

So be careful; check the credentials, make sure the landlord is human; greet the neighbours and get feedback before jumping into any agreements.
