If you haven’t heard about this new Sailfish OS before, don’t be surprised because I only heard about this just a few days ago. What kind of a tech-blogger am I, right? Apparently, this Sailfish is a new Linux-based mobile operating system, made by the Finnish mobile phone company named Jolla. It actually looks pretty cool.

The Sailfish OS uses the core and features of Mer, which is well-known as a major part of Nokia’s MeeGo OS. Sailfish has a sleek custom-built user interface that targets multitaskers and packs features similar to Google’s Android. It’s also compatible with Android apps as well. The company has plans to port this OS beyond smartphones and to tabs, computers and even smart TVs in the future.

The very first device powered by Sailfish OS debuted a couple of days ago. The new smartphone titled “Jolla” offers 4.5-inch Estrade display, Dual core chip, 8-MP camera, and 16GB space for 399€ (~ $515 USD). Jolla smartphone is now up for pre-order and will ship out “by end of 2013.”

If you’re not a fan of Android or iOS or Windows Phone or BlackBerry or Firefox OS or Ubuntu Phone, then you might as well try out Sailfish OS.
