I finished MGRP shortly after posting my last What I’m Watching Lately installment and thought I’d write a quick ‘you must watch this!’ segment here. Like I mentioned before, if you’re into Sword Art Online and girlier anime, this will be a cute little watch. The characters are all absolutely adorable and there’s plenty of story and sass. … Yep, I joined the bandwagon. I watched this anime in about 3 sittings whilst my boyfriend was obsessively watching Trollhunters and surprisingly loved it! It was SO talked-about that we made a note to watch it and I’m pretty glad I did because it was funny, totally heart-wrenching and just different. There’s a lot of guy-on-guy nuances throughout and the story centres around a young figure-skater and his career struggles. Honestly, even if you watch it for the sheer animation talent alone, you’ll be blown away.Mirai Nikki
We spent the entirety of our January watching the super-old Mirai Nikki. Translating into ‘Future Diary’, Mirai Nikki follows as Yukiteru Amano - somewhat of a loner - becomes a diary owner and is entered into a survival game coordinated by Deus, the God of Space and Time. His diary-writing hobby transforms into a Future Diary, meaning his phone can predict the future up to ninety days. He’s accompanied by Yuno Gasai, a slightly stalkerish girl, as they try and eliminate the other diary owners from the ‘game’. I absolutely LOVED watching this series and am constantly sad that I’ve not any more episodes to watch.The Crown
The Crown is a Netflix Original, and one that went down a storm from the sounds of things! I noticed absolutely everybody commending the series and so Babybutter and I decided to give it a go in the first week of January. Whilst at first the series is tough to get to grips with because of course you expect the Queen to look like, well, the Queen and for Prince Phillip not to look like Matt Smith, I thoroughly loved this series. My sister is a total Royalist and loved every moment, whilst I sat and racked my brains for my admittedly poor British history at every turn and moment. By episode 4, I was completely gripped and I’m avidly waiting for Netflix to premiere the second season!Age of Youth
I finished watching this coming-of-age, fly-on-the-wall K-drama last week and can’t believe I missed it the first time round. Can I take a minute to say how much I LOVE that the Netflix team have decided to add more Asian series to their roster? It saves me so much time! Anyway! Age of Youth is a feel-good K-drama that centres around the lives of five female housemates. It’s fairly slow with storylines that doesn’t really merge at any point but it’s a cute play on documenting how the lives of five people that live together can be so different. I finished it with a real sense of girl power and wanting to sit at a coffee house with my best girls.Tokyo Ghoul
I distinctly remember my best friend imploring me to watch Tokyo Ghoul years and years ago, but I can’t quite pinpoint why I hadn’t watched it up until now. I’ve been making a concerted effort to unwind properly in the evenings and so one night, I made a huge cup of tea, cosied into some fluffy socks and marathoner half a season in one sitting. Tokyo Ghoul is another of those half-human, half-demon animes, it speaks to you though, and this one really creates a question of ‘why is one life more valuable than another?’ It’s clever and emotive. Fans of Attack on Titan will enjoy this.How I Met Your Mother
Last but not least, I started watching How I Met Your Mother for the first time! I’m not sure how I missed this but I suppose it comes down to our family never really watching Western TV. I’m totally obsessed with HIMYM and Harvey and I are ploughing through the seasons like nobody’s business!Up next? I’m going to watch Goblin, Parks & Recreation, finish up Lucifer and perhaps track down some new anime. What are you watching lately?
What I’m Watching Lately
11.2.17 After a slowish start to the month and one that I spent a lot of time hibernating in my bedroom for, I’ve a whole batch of series to share with you all. There’s really been nothing better than lighting some candles, filling up my tumbler with water and costing up under my new throw with something light-hearted and escapist-heavy to watch.
