What I Got For Christmas 2016

By Winyeemichelle
Do you know what? Not once have I ever shared what I’ve received for Christmas and yet this blog started with a handful of hauls and the like. I’ve always maintained that I ‘probably would never’ share one of these posts, if only for the sheer fact that I’ve been in between homes almost every Christmas. These post-Christmas posts and videos are one of my biggest guilty pleasures and I often find them great sources of inspiration and reference for next Christmas’ shopping endeavours. So without further ado, here’s an edited selection* of what I was lucky enough to find under the tree this year:

Beauty

I rarely ask for or receive beauty products at Christmas because I think it’s the type of thing that’s incredibly subjective. And in the same vein, I never ask for specific things for Christmas either because our family is pretty attuned to one another’s interests. However, a fragrance is always on the cards and Daisybrother pulled a right cracker out of the bag with his: a BYREDO Rose of No Man’s Land fragrance!! I absolutely squealed the house down when I opened this. It smells absolutely amazing with notes of Turkish rose absolute and base notes of amber. Great for day to night although I’m already rationing this like nobody’s business.
My boyfriend totally nailed it on the beauty front. Having spent pretty much every day through November and December with me, he knew just what I wanted by listening intently to my incessant dreaming! That boy… he’d compiled a list based on my throwaway comments!! (”Hey, I really do quite like those Chanel 2.55 handbags…”) One thing that I did not expect to spy in the HUGE Santa’s sack from him was this rose gold-encased lipstick from Charlotte Tilbury! Super Cindy is a beautiful peachy nude that works incredibly well on olive skin tones. I find a lot of high street shades wash me out so I’ve loved using this over the past week. Also in the sack were two Lush bath bombs! Christmas Pudding (that I’ve already used…) and a Snowball. Nailing it on the cruelty-free front.

Lifestyle

Two of my favorite presents were from Ban.do, Queen of kitsch stationery and lifestyle bits. I’m utterly obsessed with this Love Potion tumblr (helping me to drink more!) and my 2017 planner (more coming next week on my organisation plans for the year). I also received a bobble Infuse which has been SO handy and that I can’t wait to take with me to Barre Concept classes. Boyfriend did so well!
Little stocking fillers that totally took me by surprise were from my sister. Oh Babybutter…! I received these absolutely adorable pins: one from Veronica Dearly, who is one of my favorite illustrators, and another from The Old English Company. SO cute! Totally adding them to my Honey + Chai Elsie denim jacket in the summer. She also added in these cosy AF Brandy Melville shorts (100% recommend them!) and the infamous Marie Kondo book so I can tackle my hoarding problem. From my boyfriend’s Mum, I received this bottle of homemade Chai infusion (not by her!) that she actually picked up from Bath when they went away earlier last year!

Girl Geek

I think some of the loveliest and most personal gifts are the ones that you open and hear cries of ‘what is that?!’ upon tearing the paper. I’m a huge geek at heart and some of my more unique gifts included this crystal making kit (I’m absolutely blogging this!) and a Pokemon Nanoblock set for Eevee!! Cannot wait to unplug and play with those one weekend. My boyfriend and I both received T-shirts for Christmas and we ended up wearing them together for the rest of the day!
The Christmas just gone was hands down one of my favourites ever. It was my first one home since moving away and it felt lovely to just be at home, no rush and no anxiety about having to catch a long-haul flight away from my loved ones. I had the best time ever, not least because my boyfriend surprised me after breakfast with a rose and a Bombay Sapphire and tonic on the doorstep!! … I’ll let everybody get on with January proceedings now, shall I?
* And here’s your obligatory reminder that this is not a post to brag, merely to provide inspiration and an insight into what I got! These gifts featured are some of the most thoughtful and surprising ones for somebody that’s like me (a.k.a. unwilling to give a Christmas list and who has many, many interests)!
