Let me tell Y’all about my trip to North Myrtle Beach this past week. I have more stories than a coon dog has fleas, but not all of them can be told just yet. But here are some things you all could learn from my latest vacation as I watched the people around me on the beach all week.
Here are 10 things to watch for when spending time on the beach:
- Never underestimate the power of sunscreen. This woman who sunbathed near me most of the week, bless her heart, thought she could get away with a little dab of SPF. Well, let’s just say she looked like a boiled crawdad by the end of the day.
- Don’t wear a white swimsuit. Now, I’m no fashion expert, but even I know better than to wear a white swimsuit to the beach. Especially if you have little ones with you. That thing was brown as a biscuit by the end of the day. Poor woman wore darker suits the rest of the week.
- Seagulls can’t be trusted. This woman thought feeding the seagulls some of her leftover Fritos would be cute. Next thing you know, she’s surrounded by a flock of them and they’re stealing her lunch right out of her hand. Who does that?
- Always bring a good book or earphones to listen to your music. People that blast their own music often compete with others who do the same like none of them have any home training. My husband got a few of them with his Bluetooth by blasting his “beach tunes” via Bluetooth into their speakers. You should have seen them try to figure that out!
- Tide pools are not for the older crowd. One misstep and it’s a quick trip to the ER to figure out if it’s a fracture or a clean break. And if you’ve been drinking, the ER people don’t like you. At. All.
- Drink plenty of water. Although some prefer the devil’s juice all day which can lead to trips to the ER. (See number 5)
- Make new friends. Another woman met some folks on the beach and ended up spending the rest of her trip with them. Not sure the new friends were as thrilled as she was though.
- I now know why it’s girls that mostly walk the Italian Ice cart up and down the beach. Only the dads were buying it and the moms were annoyed. After the cart went on down the beach, the moms and dads were no longer speaking. Finally, a little peace and quiet!
- Take a break and enjoy the moment. All my people-watching reminded me that sometimes you just need to sit back, relax, and take in the beauty of your surroundings. Ain’t that the truth?
