What Fruit Do You Like Most ! - Apples ?!?

Posted on the 06 July 2023 by Sampathkumar Sampath

APPLE   is a  very delicious fruit indeed.

The apple is the fruit of the apple tree, species Malus domestica in the rose family Rosaceae. It is one of the most widely cultivated tree fruits. The tree is small and deciduous. The tree originated from Central Asia, where its wild ancestors are still found !! It is grown in million tonnes – China produces 2/5th of this; US is the second leading producer. In US, more than 60% sold are commercially grown in Washington state. Newzealand exports huge quantity competing with US.

Every mother would want her child to eat  more of  green vegetables and lentils – as also fruits and apple would stand top of the chart.  Apple was often linked to health – and fruits were bought depending on how fresh they looked.  Not any longer – today people are concerned about pesticides and chemical wax keeping their sheen.

The proverb "An apple a day keeps the doctor away," addressing the health effects of the fruit, dates back to 19th century Wales. Research suggests that apples may reduce the risk of colon cancer, prostate cancer and lung cancer. The seeds are mildly poisonous, containing a small amount of amygdalin, a cyanogenic glycoside; usually not enough to be dangerous to humans, but it can deter birds.  Other than eating, apple is associated famously with Science. All of us have heard the story of ‘apple falling’ and Newton learning.

In 1969, Wozniak returned to the Bay Area after being expelled from University of Colorado Boulder in his first year for hacking into the institution's computer system.  During this time, Wozniak designed and built his "Cream Soda" computer with his friend Bill Fernandez.  He later re-enrolled at De Anza College and transferred to University of California, Berkeley in 1971.  In 1986, he finished his degree in electrical engineering at the University of California in Berkeley, graduating using the name Rocky Raccoon Clark to keep his identity secret. He had first attended Berkeley in 1971, but ended up taking a break to work on Apple. Don't call him a college dropout, though — he told the Los Angeles Times, "I simply took a year off to earn money for my fourth year of school. And then my career kept going up."

Before focusing his attention on Apple, he was employed at Hewlett-Packard where he designed calculators. It was during this time that he befriended Steve Jobs.  Though he's no longer involved with the company he helped build, Wozniak remains a figure in the tech world, speaking at conferences and offering insights on the state of the industry. He even did a stint on ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" back in 2009.

Wozniak designed the Apple II,  went on to become one of the first majorly successful personal computers available for mass purchase. Wishing to pursue a more engineering-focused role elsewhere, Wozniak decided to leave his managing responsibilities at Apple in 1985, selling most of his stock.

Apples can be found in any grocery store or supermarket, where you can choose between the red version, rich in fiber, and the green version, less sweet.

However, there is another version, much less known than the first two and really difficult to see: the black apple, also known as “black diamond”.

This apple is called “black diamond” not only because of its dark purple, almost black skin, but also because of its rarity: it is grown in Tibet, in the southeastern region of Nyingch – which means “throne of the sun” – at an altitude of 3,100 meters. Because of its rarity, the cost of a black diamond apple is between seven and twenty euros, which is much more than its red, green or yellow counterparts.

The reason for its high price is that not only is this fruit grown exclusively in Tibet, but it also takes a very long time to ripen: it takes about eight years for a Tibetan apple tree to produce its fruit, almost twice as long as the most common apple trees, which clearly increases its economic price.
