What Do You Want?

By Melissa Boles @_mboles

I didn’t write here yesterday.  I spent the day reading and doing a little personal reflection and doing some cleaning.  I didn’t accomplish everything I intended.  I probably won’t today either.  Sometimes you just have to let that happen.

I’ve been going through some struggle recently, trying to determine if what I’m doing with my life is what I really want to do.  And even though I still don’t know; even though I still have a lot to work through, I do finally feel like I can start putting together a true, beautiful life.

I want to write.  I want to read books.  I want to drink warm beverages and talk with people about life and growth and politics.  I want to expand my mind and help others do the same.  I want to teach people how to love one another.  I want to learn to dance.  I want to travel.  I want to experiment.  I want to walk long distances.  I want to conduct research.  I want to surprise people.  I want more tattoos.  I want to control my day.  I want to understand all the songs.  I want to notice things.  I want to go swimming.  I want to work until 3 am and then wake up at 8 am and do it all again.  I want to turn 30 and not notice.  I want to experience magic.  I want to know what it feels like to really love life.

There are a lot of things I still want to do in this life.  And even though things aren’t perfect right now, I know a lot of good is coming.

If you’re where I’m at, or you’re just trying to figure out life in general, take out a piece of paper.  Turn on your favorite album or your favorite artist.  And write down all of the things that you want.  It doesn’t matter what it is.  Maybe it’s all the things you want to do before a certain age.  Or before you have kids.  Or with your kids.  It could be things you do with others, or alone.  Just make the list.

And then make it happen.
