Wedding Inspiration: Early Ideas

By Behindtheseclosedeyes @theseclosedeyes
So we've been engaged for about a month & a half now and I've already got a good idea of some things I'd like to have for our wedding. This probably doesn't come as a surprise since we all seem to have our dream weddings planned out years in advance, but obviously some things can change depending on your taste at the time and also what the groom wants (although I think he'll be happy as long as it's not too OTT).
From the get-go I've been certain about the color scheme and I'm sure you can get an idea of it from my little mood board. Yep.. I'm sticking with what I know and would love a pastel colour scheme for our wedding. I've loved pastel shades for years and have donned them in many ways, whether it's a pretty pastel color on my nails or little pastel accents in my bedroom. In particular I love lilacs, mint greens and peachy pink shades so I'm sure there will be a big focus on them as the wedding planning progresses. David is even on board with the pastel theme, as long as he doesn't need to wear a pastel kilt of course! I'd love to incorporate these colours in the flowers, bridesmaid dresses and overall decor, and Pinterest has been a godsend when it comes to finding inspiration. Moving on to one of the most exciting parts.. the dress. I've spent years drooling over wedding dresses and craning my neck to have a quick peak in the window of bridal shops, and now I can actually look for myself without feeling like a crazy person. I've always had an idea of the dress I'd like but I've lost count of how many times it has changed over the last few years. At this early stage of planning my wedding, the ideal dress revolves around lace. Half of the dresses in my wardrobe feature lace in one way or another and it's one of those timeless materials that I picture for my future wedding dress. When it comes to the actual shape of the dress I'm not so sure about what I'd like, but right now I'm picturing it as being fitted at the top and flowing out from the waist in order to suit my pear-shaped frame. This idea could completely change by the time I come to write another wedding inspiration post, but for now I'm set on something lace and flowy.
The last thing I've been thinking about is the venue for our reception. The wedding ceremony venue has already been decided as we both want a traditional church ceremony so there's not too much to worry about in that respect, but the reception is proving to be a bit more tricky. For years I'd pictured the reception being held in a gorgeous old house or even a castle (I can dream), but things have changed now. While we were still at Mar Hall (where David proposed) we had a quick look through photo albums containing beautiful pictures of weddings held on the grounds of the building, and particularly in their marquee. One thing that never really entered my head was a marquee as the reception venue, but after seeing the gorgeous photos I've totally changed my mind. You really can't go wrong with having a blank canvas and so much space to work with, so for now I'm all for a marquee. The beautiful marquee where Fleur's reception was held has just made me fall in love with the idea even more.
I think I've rambled enough about wedding ideas so I'll call it a day now. I hope it hasn't been too much of a task for you to get through this first wedding post & I'll be sure to update you on any progress we make. Summer 2016 wedding, here we come!
