Wedding inspiration: summer golds

Emma and Tom kept their summer wedding theme really light and elegant, which I love. Sometimes gold can be quite a heavy theme, and with stately homes like Arley Hall where there might be heavy gilded picture frames, gold chairs and dark decor it’s a nice trick to keep things bright and summery. Emma and Tom did it perfectly.
Use different gold tones at your wedding
Look around while you’re wedding shopping and you’ll find there are as many shades of gold as there are pink! On the shelves of Hobbycraft, for example, you’ll find gold metallic cards which are really dark, or ‘mirror finish’ gold card which is very pale in contrast. Some golds are yellowy, some have a tinge of green – look carefully and choose wisely to suit your venue and the time of year.
Use colours to complement gold
Emma’s bouquet had the palest yellow gerberas with foliage. Table flowers were yellow gerberas and pale gold lilies. Wedding guests’ place settings were tied with little tea roses in soft lilac – a complementary colour which stands out and looks really pretty. Think about using an accent colour like this: just a little can really emphasise the golds you’ve used.
Parchment is a great match for a gold wedding
Emma and Tom’s sweet table had a little white frame with a printed note on parchment paper (there’s a bigger photograph in yesterday’s wedding blog feature too). Incorporating parchment as one of your gold tones can be a great source of inspiration for your gold wedding theme: think vintage, think of all the fun you can have with typefaces and printing, think calligraphy if you have the budget for it!
With gold, less is more
We’re talking Marilyn Monroe vs Katie Price now ladies. With gold as your wedding theme you don’t need to overdo it: look at Emma and Tom’s wedding cake. The design is simple, with lovely ribbons and a single bow and shiny brooch. You don’t need tiers upon tiers to create a luxury effect. Your cake doesn’t have to sparkle from across the room to get attention – a little goes a long way.
