[WATCH] Viola Davis To Hollywood “Pay Me What I’m Worth!”

Actress, Viola Davis participated in the  Women in the World Salon event in Los Angeles on Tuesday, and shared with journalist, Tina Brown, her thoughts on the #MeToo movement, and pay equity in Hollywood.

“I have a career that’s probably comparable to Meryl Streep, Julianne Moore, Sigourney Weaver,” she told Brown, according to People. “They all came out of Yale, they came out of Juilliard, they came out of NYU. They had the same path as me, and yet I am nowhere near them. Not as far as money, not as far as job opportunities, nowhere close to it.”

“People say, ‘You’re a black Meryl Streep … We love you. There is no one like you,” the Academy Award winning actress expressed. “OK, then if there’s no one like me, you think I’m that, you pay me what I’m worth.”

‘I’m not hustling for my worth. I’m worthy. When I came out of my mom’s womb I came in worthy.’

Regarding the #MeToo movement, and if it’s a true tipping point, the actress took an excerpt from her Women’s March speech:

“Nothing can be great unless it costs you something,” Viola shared according to Variety.

She continued,

“For me, everything has cost me something,” she said. “I think that people sometimes want to take the safe route. The way life works, it’s gotta cost you something. That’s when you know you’ve really made the sacrifices.”
