Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg is helping people access the internet for free with his internet.org app, which is admirable but what happens to over 3 billion of people who still don’t have access to internet? Founder of Virgin Group, Sir Richard Branson has the solution to that. He is now planning a new project to make high-speed internet more accessible around the world by creating a gigantic constellation of satellites.

“OneWeb Ltd will build, launch and operate the world’s largest ever satellite network. Virgin Galactic’s LauncherOne programme will help make it possible with frequent satellite launches at a much lower cost and with greater reliability,” Branson announced the project via a blog post.

It’s a known fact that more than half the world’s population still lacks access to internet. Branson’s new project will help them connect with the rest of the world.

“It was great to see President Obama announcing new steps to help more Americans access better broadband. This project will take that goal further, covering areas around the globe that desperately need high speed internet and telephony.”
