Valencia En Fallas

By Themowway @themowway
Valencia en Fallas by TheMowWayFallas have (finally) come to an end and I have survived!!! Fallas are the local (and crazy) holiday in Valencia. For 19 days the life in the city slows down and for aprox 5 days the normal activities stop to party in exhausting street parties, incredible firework displays at midnight and Mascletás at midday. As you know I LOVE being a tourist in my own city (read about our past adventures here), so camera in hand we decided to explore the heard of Fallas on one of the busiest nights of the year in Valencia! Valencia en Fallas by TheMowWay This is what I wore for walking round the city! Love to wear my (obioustly) fake fur coat with a casual outfit. Valencia en Fallas by TheMowWayThis is the award winning iluminated street, scrowl down to see it in motion! It's estimated that this year the burnt Fallas were worth 7.7 million euros. Yes, you read it right, Valencia burnt 7.7 million Euros. Crisis? Who said crisis? Look at the detail!!! My heart breaks each time I think that these amazing works of art are burnt to a frazzle each year! Valencia en Fallas by TheMowWayThe lights were breathtaking! Valencia en Fallas by TheMowWayThis is Nino's face after almost 4 days non-sleep. He is a Fallero, he even gets dressed for the flower offering to the Saint Mary. Falleros live Fallas much more insensly, as there are street parties until VERY late at night (or early in the morning....) every night for about a week! Valencia en Fallas by TheMowWayAnd of course we had some "Churros con Chocolate"! Churros are a sweet fried pastries, which are served with thick hot chocolate. This is mainly a breakfast, but during Fallas it's eaten almost all day. Valencia en Fallas by TheMowWayThis is a tiny part of the AMAZING light and music show on one of the steets in Valencia city center. Each Falla decorate the street with lights and the best one wins a prize. This was the winnign one!! Wonderful!!!!
