[Underwater] Photographer to Love: Elena Kalis

By Leslielazard @leslielazard

When I first stumbled upon this image on Pinterest last week, I was immediately captivated. I mean, I’ve taken underwater photos before back in the day with those disposable waterproof cameras, (Remember disposable cameras period? Yeah, me neither.) but this image was clearly lightyears ahead of the old school underwater camera from my teenage years. With my fingers glued to the keyboard, I immediately went to work hunting down the source of the remarkably beautiful image.

A quick click through on Pinterest for the image source turned up zilch. Not to be deterred, I turned to more drastic measures – a full on Google image source. And finally the elusive source behind the pretty photograph was revealed. Meet Elena Kalis, an underwater photographer living in The Bahamas. Because of this blog, I have become more knowledgable and skilled in photography, and definitely consider it as one of my hobbies now. With that being said, photography isn’t always the easiest skill to master. It takes plenty of practice and knowledge of how light and the different camera functions – aperture, shutter speed, etc. – all work together to create a great photo. Professional photographers with great creative skills and portfolios always intrigue me and I was doubly impressed by Elena’s job title of Underwater Photographer. That takes some mad skills ya’ll. And how adorable are these kids!? They are wayyyy more comfortable in the water than I could ever be. Tuh.

The photos from her Alice and Wonderland collection are equally amazing.

This gorgeous photo was my absolute favorite.

Sadly, a perusal of Elena’s websote didn’t reveal an option to purchase any of these beautiful portraits. I’m seriously thinking of contacting her to see if any of her pictures are available to be purchased as prints – that’s how in love with them I am. Not to mention any one of these pictures would look great in a simple frame in my office. If you have a few extra minutes, head over to Elena’s site and check out the rest of her gorgeous underwater portfolio. I promise you won’t be disappointed!
