Tyler Childers Drops New Album Announcement and Emotive Music Video

Posted on the 28 July 2023 by Makably

Country artist Tyler Childers has made a thrilling announcement about his upcoming sixth studio album, “Rustin’ in the Rain,” set to be released on September 8 through Hickman Holler/RCA. Following the success of his 2022 triple album “Can I Take My Hounds to Heaven?” with the Food Stamps, Childers now presents the lead single “In Your Love,” accompanied by a touching music video directed by Bryan Schlam.

In a press release, Childers humorously shared that he approached the album as if he were pitching a selection of songs to the legendary Elvis Presley. The album features a mix of covers, one co-write, and even original tracks crafted with Childers’ playful, but admittedly terrible, Elvis impersonation as he worked around his farm and home. Expressing his passion for the project, Childers hopes that audiences will enjoy listening to it as much as he cherished creating it.

The music video for “In Your Love” boasts the creative direction of Silas House, a celebrated New York Times bestselling author, Poet Laureate of Kentucky (Childers’ home state), and recipient of the prestigious 2022 Duggins Prize, the most substantial award for LGBTQ writers in the country. Collaborating with Jason Kyle Howard, House constructed a moving narrative centered around two men, portrayed by Colton Haynes and James Scully, delving into their lives as lovers in 1950s rural Appalachia.

House emphasized the importance of LGBTQ representation in country music, especially in rural contexts, highlighting the significance of visibility for LGBTQ individuals in such settings. He underscored that LGBTQ people have always existed in rural areas, and the music video aims to authentically portray this reality within the country music genre. Striving to move beyond stereotypes, the creative team meticulously captured rural life with attention to detail, drawing from their own family pictures as references. The video seeks to portray a rich and nuanced story within a brief four-minute duration, exploring the complexities of life for both rural and LGBTQ individuals.

As anticipation builds for the release of “Rustin’ in the Rain,” Tyler Childers and the Food Stamps are currently embarking on an enchanting North American tour, captivating audiences with their unique musical essence and heartfelt performances until late September.
