Two Weddings

By Lilveggiepatch @Lilveggiepatch

We had the privilege and the honor of attending two weddings over Memorial Day weekend.  The two were very different from each other, but one thing was extremely clear: both parties loved their partners so much and were so happy to celebrate their unions with us.

Yes, it’s true: I’ve become a person who gets sappy at weddings.

On Sunday night, we joined Kent, Gary, and an intimate group of their friends at Alphabet City Brewing Company for a cozy reception.  ACBC is an amazing beer bar- I believe there are 350 craft beers- with an equally outstanding cheese list.  (Kent, one of the grooms, and I met when we were both working in the food industry; I love to boast that one of my good friends is a cheesemonger!)

Bobwhite Lunch and Supper Counter catered most of the meal: standard Southern fare to leave you full, happy, and full of comfort.

I tried a bit of all the vegetarian options: a biscuit (which B said met the Southern standard), blanched veggies + dip, black eyed peas, mac ‘n cheese (which Kent somehow had time to make himself!), collard greens, and maple cornbread.

ACBC has a wonderful area out back with a few tables, a back patio, and a lovely porch swing.  B and I camped out on that porch swing until the air got too chilly for us, but I’m now determined: in my future life, there will be one of these swings.

And, ahem, speaking of the cake: look closely.  Closer.  IT IS MADE OUT OF WHEELS OF CHEESE!  Only fitting for a cheesemonger, right?  If you’re wondering if we cut slices of cheese and ate it like regular cake, you would be correct.  I can’t remember what kind it was- I believe a sheep’s milk wash rind from Vermont- but it was incredible.

A few short hours later, we were driving to Staten Island’s Snug Harbor for my Danny and Rebecca’s wedding.  Danny and I went to high school together, and watching Rebecca meet him at the altar- or chuppahas it was- was a happy moment for all of us.

After a week of nonstop rain, the weather broke and we watched the ceremony outdoors.

Thanks to Kent, Gary, Danny and Rebecca for inviting us to celebrate their special days with them.  To many wonderful years ahead!
