Towing Company Improves Routing with Fleet Tracking

Posted on the 05 September 2013 by Fleetmatics @fleetmatics

All in One Auto Repair & Towing of Ukiah, CA, was looking for a way to manage its fleet of 17 vehicles. The drivers were used to responding to accidents, breakdowns, and impound requests in heavy-traffic areas. On jobs like this, the drivers frequently interact with law-enforcement officials as well as other drivers. These encounters can quickly result in disputes or evolve into situations where honesty is questioned. Because of this, General Manager Kathryn Hoffar wanted to raise driver accountability. A fleet tracking solution can help provide proof of service. In addition, she also wanted to improve on inefficiencies within the fleet.

Hoffar switched to Fleetmatics fleet tracking in November of 2011 after utilizing a different GPS tracking solution. So far, Fleetmatics has helped All in One resolve at least two major disputes. The solution has also helped streamline routing practices and in turn, cut back on fuel consumption.

The Fleetmatics fleet tracking solution has helped cut back on the number of trips each vehicle needs to make to complete a job. When a new job pops up, Hoffar is able to check and see which truck is closest. This increase in routing efficiency has helped save money that would otherwise be used to replace tires due to wear and tear. This is a large benefit for All in One, considering Hoffar spends approximately $3,000 a month on tires. “If you can reduce the amount of driving, even by 5 or 7 percent, that’s pretty significant when you’re talking about a $10,000 a month fuel bill and $3,000 a month tire bill,” she says.
