Many people think New Year’s Eve is a key social date in the calendar of the year. It’s the last big hurrah before the new year comes, and organizing the perfect celebration can seem like a big task. The good news is it doesn’t have to be. You can choose to go out with all your friends or you could choose to host, which means having everybody over your house.
If you decide to host, keep in mind that you don’t have to have all of the celebration inside the house. You can include your yard for part of the party to give you more space. It may be cold where you are as you celebrate the new year (and count down to midnight!), but that doesn’t mean you can’t fire up the BBQ, especially when you find the perfect blackened chicken recipe here. Hosting New Year’s doesn’t have to be a difficult task, and with the suggestions below, you can make sure that yours is the perfect welcome to 2023!
- Make sure you have a budget plan in place. Even if something is being held at your house you still need to have a budget. It’s important that you identify any budget that’s available for food, drinks, and everything else. If the budget is low, make sure that whomever you invite, you can ask them to bring drinks or a dish. That way, they can contribute to the party that they are going to enjoy and you can keep your costs low. Don’t forget that some things could attract a premium price just because it’s New Year’s Eve, so make sure that you buy things more than a month or so in advance.
- Consider the venue (AKA your house for this event). You’ll want to think about how many people you’d like to invite, especially if you are going to be tasked with the clean up. Try to make sure that the house is clean, and if you’re using the yard as well, then make sure it’s well lit. If you plan to buy fireworks, be sure that the person in charge of them (and ultimately, will light them) is sober. If you’re going to host a party, check that you have a good playlist and the music isn’t too loud for the neighbors.
- Send out the invites. If this party is going to be a little formal, use paper invites, and send them early enough that everyone receives them.
- Consider the catering. The food and drink at a party is what’s often remembered, and whether you decide to provide a sit-down dinner, a BBQ, or a buffet, you need to design a menu that will create the right impact. A BBQ is often a great idea because people will mill around the fire pit in the yard with burgers, hot dogs, and corn cobs.
