Tokyo Autumn Trip 2013: Day 2- Eggcellent/ Harajuku/ Hirata Bokujyo

By Vegsmoothiebunny
Day 2! We took our time leaving the house because we were on vacation! And vacation means slow moving and eating everything in sight ;) We had nothing planned for the day except to wander around Tokyo, and go whereever our noses led us. The best kind of holiday!
We spent some time on the rooftop just taking in the sights of Tokyo on a clear day and reveling in the cold :)

Wandered downstairs and saw a farmers market of sorts going on. I LOVE FARMERS MARKETS!!!! I just love the sight of feel of fresh produce just sitting in baskets waiting to be picked and brought home and cooked for dinner! Everything was so gorgeous! Even the logs used to decorate the veggie baskets had mushrooms growing out of them! Such dedication to details!

We then ended up at Eggcellent for brunch and I have to tell you, eggcellent, really is eggcellent! :D Gorgeous interiors, great food!

There's always a queue but the waiting area is very nicely done up as well!

This was the A.M Eggcellent Benedict- Sesame and shiso rice, topped with special miso sauce, avocado, muguro and an organic egg. So delicious and creative, I can't even- they may not look like much but may I present to you some yolk lovin' :) Click to see!

Original Eggs Benedict- Organic eggs, hollandaise sauce and bacon atop homemade english muffins. Delish!

Tex Mex Benedict! Original eggs ben with chilli corn carne and ratatouille! This was okay only, in my opinion only because I felt the chilli over powered the delicate taste of the eggs!

We couldn't resist ordering another English muffin by itself on the side to go with their fresh home made peanut butter! They even have a huge peanut grinder in their store to grind peanut butter! And anywhere that makes their own peanut butter DEFINITELY gets my vote! :D
While doin gup this article, I realised that the menu for eggcellent has changed since I last visited. The new menu looks awesome- keeping old favourites and adding lots of delish new offerings. Definitely going to check them out if I get a chance to go back again!

After a hearty brunch, we wandered around and found ourselves at Harajuku! That just means Daiso and Crepes! :D

Since it's autumn, pumpkin and cinnamon featured heavily in all the seasonal menus! For the crepe I had pumpkin and honey and Calbee was selling chips with cinnamon and maple! I prefer my chips savoury but this was interesting!

Ended the walk down Harajuku with a rest at Lotteria! Freshly fried Prawn burger patties! :D We didn't know these were their version of 'nuggets' so ordered them and a prawn burger. In the end we ended up with 5 prawn burger patties and one prawn burger -.- Seriously, all those years of Japanese lessons... why did we spend so much time learning how to say "I love spring, I can go see the flowers with my friends, would you like to go too? Let's go!" When we should have been taught more important things like "I want 5 prawn nuggets. No no, not patties. Nuggets. The small ones. A discount? Freebie? Oh sure, Thanks!"

Wandered around shibuya after that and passed a store selling fried chicken. It was such a nondescript little store yet there was such a long queue! Needless to say, we felt like we HAD to have some fried chicken too. Haha (Singaporean instincts kicking in overseas)

Then to Midtown back at Roppongi to meet a friend for dinner!
This is the famous Hirata Bokyujyo which specialises in Tonkatsu!!
There are 2 branches at Roppongi. One is the really high end Hirata Bokyujo on the higher floor where a dinner can easily set you back a pretty penny while there is another one at basement 2 which serves set lunches/ dinners for poor people like us that are more reasonably priced ;)

Look at the crust. YUM. Of course, I HAD to choose the one with melted cheese and mushrooms in it. The moment I saw the word "cheese" together with "crispy", "mushroom" and "meat", I was SOLD!
