Tito Vilanova Steps into Pep’s Shoes at Barcelona

By Stizzard

Tito Vilanova has been named as Pep Guardiola’s successor at Barca. The news on Friday that Guardiola won’t be continuing at Barcelona, rocked the world of football. Pep, at a packed press conference gave his reasons for not staying and two minutes later Barcelona president Sandro Rosell announced that Pep’s second in command, Tito Vilanova would be taking over in the summer.

I personally think it’s the best choice. Why look elsewhere when Tito has been in the shadows for the past four years. he knows the club, the staff and most importantly, the players. He’ll do a good job, I’m sure. he’ll also stick to the style of play we have been accustomed to seeing throughout these last four years with Guardiola at the helm.

Pep’s team is without a shadow of a doubt the best team that Barca has ever had. The way Guardiola has enthused his players and got them playing such “delicious” football is just incredible. Barca is also a lifestyle and Tito will no doubt live up to this.

Guardiola has always been the “perfect gentleman” at press conferences and i’m sure Tito will also be.Guardiola has said that he needs replenishing as he’s “empty”. It’s hardly surprising, four years at Barca would take its toll on anybody.

Pep needs a long rest and this sabbatical year that he spoke of will ensure that he comes back to the world of football ready to do battle.

I think that Pep Guardiola’s decision to bow out now comes as no surprise and I think it’s a really wise decision, too. Guardiola has won so much with Barcelona, maybe no other coach in history would be able to emulate such success. A lot of folks feel it’s the wrong decision especially when Barca’s title hopes have disappeared along with being dumped out of the Champions League by Chelsea this week. I say differently and totally take my hat off to a genuine guy – a nice guy from a small Catalonian town called Santpedor.

We wish Pep all the best as he deserves a well earned rest away from the media’s attention.
