Tiffany and Co. Celebrates 175th Anniversary this MonthWhat started as an emporium for stationary and fancy goods back in 1837 in New York City is now a world-wide jewelry powerhouse, one fancied by the likes of most celebrities and everyday people.

While Jessica Biel, Katie Holmes, Blake Lively and 2,000 other female celebrities have been spotted wearing Tiffany and Co. jewelry over the last decade, the solid foundation of the company is what helped it gain it’s popularity in today’s market. Tiffany & Co survived the last 175 years through straight-forward sales tactics. Tiffany was one of the first jewelry retailer who clearly marked the prices of their jewelry on each piece to prevent and discourage haggling. Also, it was one of the only local jewelry retailers that sold jewelry for cash only—not adapting to accepting credit until it became a social norm within the last 30 years.

Today, there are just about 170 Tiffany & Co. stores across the world with access to the brand 24/7 via their e-commerce store. Tiffany & Co. is currently headed by CEO Michael Kowalski who has been with the company in various positions since 1992.

To celebrate the company’s 175th anniversary, they released an anniversary necklace called the “Tiffany 1837 Interlocking Circles Necklace.” This extraordinary piece of jewelry made of ‘RUBEDO™ metal and sterling silver inscribed with the signature of Charles Lewis Tiffany, founder of Tiffany & Co. It’s 25″ long. The price is $8,000. The limited-edition necklace with signature is available only in 2012.”

Other pieces from the Tiffany 1837 collection are available only in 2012 to celebrate the company’s anniversary.

A recent press release from Tiffany & Co. releases new reason to celebrate:

“In 2012, Tiffany marks 175 years of design excellence with the company’s icon—the 128.54-carat Tiffany Diamond–leading the celebration. Set in a spectacular diamond and platinum necklace, the legendary stone will take part in anniversary events in Tokyo, Beijing and Dubai, returning home to New York City, where Tiffany was founded in 1837.

The Tiffany Diamond is one of the world’s largest and finest fancy yellow diamonds. The transcendent and mesmerizing beauty of this wondrous stone symbolizes Tiffany’s reputation as the quintessential jeweler for diamonds of the utmost quality. The necklace designed for this priceless gem was created in this great tradition.”

After all celebrations are over at the end of the year, the Tiffany Diamond will return home to New York and the brand will remain synonymous with classic luxury.

Happy 175th Anniversary, Tiffany & Co.!
