If you're looking to upgrade your entertainment setup without breaking the bank, Amazon Canada's Big Spring Sale has a ton tech deals worth checking out. In my opinion the highlight of the sale is the 65-inch Amazon Fire TV Omni Series Smart TV available now for $160 off.

This TV is an entertainment hub and offers an extensive selection of streaming services such as Netflix, Disney+ and Prime Video. With its user-friendly interface and impressive features, the Amazon Fire TV stands out as a top choice for a budget TV.

But does this also suit your home? I tried it out myself to find out: This is what it's like to use this TV every day.

📺 Image quality

Movies look great with 4K, Dolby Vision (enhanced picture quality) and other features that improve picture quality. You get vibrant colors, solid contrast and the 4K is clear. For the HDR enthusiasts, the Amazon Fire TV may fall short when it comes to maximum brightness and color range. However, for the price, I think the image quality is perfect, especially if you watch something in 4K.

🔆 Brightness and glare

This TV performs well in a bright room. Many TVs suffer from glare, but this one maintains a clear view, which is a plus. I have three large windows next to it and I can watch TV during the day without any problems.

🏠 Smart home and technology

The hands-free Alexa feature is really useful. Controlling your TV with voice commands is more useful than you might think, from changing the channel to playing the next episode of your favorite show, especially if you like to have the TV on while you do chores around the house. Plus, the focus on privacy, with the ability to disconnect the microphone, is reassuring.

If you're not into high-tech, the classic remote has simplified buttons that allow you to get to your favorite apps, like Netflix, more quickly. The TV also has four HDMI ports, which is useful if you want to connect a Google Chrome, an XBox, a PC or another console.

🕹️ Response time

If you're into sports or gaming, this might not be the best choice. The response time can detract from fast-paced scenes, and the 60Hz refresh rate doesn't compete with some other TVs that offer smoother frame rates. However, for casual TV viewing and cozy movie nights, there is no delay in selecting content, pausing or rewinding.

🎨 Design

I love how sleek the TV is for its price. It's thin on the side, so it doesn't stick out from the wall much. I used the PERLESMITH Swivel TV wall bracket (now also available for purchase on Amazon), and it was perfectly compatible with the 65-inch Amazon Fire TV.

When you look at the TV head-on, you only see the image (the frame is about three millimeters), giving you the perfect movie experience. If you prefer to place the TV upright, it comes with two sleek, gunmetal black legs that won't take up too much space on your media cabinet.

🍿 Content

With a wide range of movies and shows ready to stream, you won't run out of content anytime soon. The TV comes with pre-installed apps for Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Crave and more. It also constantly suggests what to watch next based on what you like - a big win if you're a Prime subscriber but if not, the emphasis on Amazon Prime content can be overwhelming.

📢 Advertisements

While the interface is incredibly user-friendly and well thought out, it is chock full of ads for Prime Video content. It's something to consider if you prefer a more streamlined, less commercial-heavy user experience.

💬What other reviewers are saying

Amazon's TV was reviewed by more than 3,400 buyers, who rated it 4.4 stars. One customer wrote: "It works beautifully, looks fantastic," adding that they have "no complaints at all with the TV, installation was a breeze, picture looks great, price was perfect ." Another said the "build quality is great for the price, even though it's mainly plastic it doesn't feel cheap."

One pointed out that "the screen is too reflective" and that the TV had trouble being fully compatible with their LG soundbar. "I liked the TV so much that I'm willing to go without a soundbar," she added, however. The buyer also said that the ads, while "not incredibly intrusive," can be annoying. "If you don't have Prime, I imagine it would be annoying considering how hard it's being pushed," they wrote.

🔥Would I buy it again?

The Amazon Fire TV 65″ Omni Series is a great choice for an affordable flat-screen TV with smart features, especially now that it's on sale $840 during Amazon's big spring sale, it's worth the purchase. Users who are deeply integrated with Alexa and Amazon Prime will love the smart features and wide selection of content. It punches above its weight compared to my previous TV at the same price.
