‘The Young and the Restless’ Actor And Writer Meg Bennett Dies At 75

Soap opera actor and writer Meg Bennett died on April 11 after a long battle with cancer. She acted and wrote many TV shows and won awards for the same in the 1990s for her work in the industry.

American television writer and actress Meg Bennett, who served both roles in soap operas like The Young and the Restless, General Hospital, and Santa Barbara, died at the age of 75.

Her family shared the news, and they confirmed that she died on April 11, 2024, due to cancer.

Her obituary was published in the Los Angeles Times on April 21. It emphasized her magnificent and smooth career.

It added,

Until nearly the end, she was devotedly working with children, writing, and engaging with her far-flung family and friends,

Talking about her professional milestones, Bennett bagged a Daytime Emmy for Best Writing as a screenwriter for General Hospital in 1995. The same show earned her three Writers Guild of America awards in 1994, 1995, and 1997. Not only this, but her writing in Santa Barbara also helped her receive the Writers Guild of America Awards in the 1991 and 1992 seasons.

Helen Margaret Bennett, known as Meg Bennett, was born in Pasadena on October 4, 1948. Before kickstarting her acting career, she got familiar with the industry through her modeling gigs. She was cast as the “Cadillac Eldorado convertible girl” for a New York auto show in 1971. This project made her move to Manhattan. Later, she appeared in Broadway shows such as Grease and Search for Tomorrow. The latter featured her as Liza for three years. 

She began her portrayal of Julie Newman on The Young and the Restless in 1980 and aced the role for six years. In the meantime, she used to suggest changes to the script. It caught the attention of the creative department of the show, and she began playing the dual role of an actor and a writer.

Her other credits include The Bold and the Beautiful, Generations, and Sunset Beach. Her works as Megan Richardson in Santa Barbara and Allegra Montenegro in General Hospital are the most noteworthy.
