The Twilight Hour

By Kristina Suko @eccentricowl

14 Yesterday my husband and I had an impromptu date to see Godzilla. I hadn’t gotten dressed or done my makeup and hair all day, so once he got home I rushed to get ready in about… fifteen minutes. This is my three minute hair and seven minute makeup and five minutes to get dressed look.

And then after the movie, we rushed to the water near my house and snapped pictures before the sun went down. It was so beautiful! But we literally had like fifteen minutes to get pictures. I’m surprised at how well they turned out, considering I tend to goof off and my husband is such a perfectionist he usually takes a long time to shoot.

I mean… yeah.

But as you can tell, I had a lot of fun! I think these quick shoots might be my favorite; just running off to get shots in the twilight makes it much more of an adventure. Plus, the location was amazing. The tide was really high, and the clarity of the water meant you could see the stones and anemones on the sea floor. With the sun setting, the movement of the water reflected oranges and pinks, and it looked like a moving watercolor painting. So, so gorgeous.

I cannot imagine living in a better place.

Having my husband as my photographer is definitely the right call. Even though I love to do things by myself and taking my own photos was a lot of fun, he just gets much more amazing shots, and there are so many more things I can do when someone else is taking the photos.

Godzilla was better than I expected. We actually only went to see it because my husband’s brother kept talking about it, and since my husband is a movie aficionado, he had to see what the hype was all about.

And surprisingly, it wasn’t as cheesy or horrible as we had thought it would be, given the subject matter.

I mean, you tell me that you can hear “Godzilla” without giggling.

But all in all, it was pretty entertaining. I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen a monster movie, so it could have also been that first-time-experience shine, haha! The other monsters were very… run-of-the-mill looking. They just looked like your typical buggy alien-like monsters.

Mostly, I just love going out with my husband.

I hope you are all having a good week so far! Asa has started to cut a tooth, so he’s been slightly crankier than normal, and it’s so sad. My happy boy has bouts of screaming that are so not normal for him.

I’m going to get him an amber teething necklace, because I have heard a lot of good things about them. Anyone else have experience with them? I’m excited to try it out!
