Since Easter, I’ve noticed that there are a considerable amount of “carboot sale here” signs popping up on main roads all around the county. So that means that car-boot season is in full swing. I know that some carboot sales carry on all year, with die-hard carbooters and buying heading out into the selling-field on a cold December morning, (and some carboot sales that I’ve been to in Lancashire have even been indoors) but I’m more of a fair-weather shopper and I’d rather go when the sun is shining and the fields are less muddy. And I’m sure I’m not alone, because there has been an increase in the number of carboot sales advertised in the local paper and I’m certain that sellers see a much better turn-out of buyers when the weather is fine.
Anyway, I’ve been to a few this year already and I love having a good ol’ rummage through other people’s unwanted stuff. Sometimes, I’m shocked by the things that people want to get rid of and I would happily LIVE in their stall, and other times I think that someone has just cleared actual rubbish out of their loft or shed and are trying to sell the dirty, stinky, broken stuff. But then again, it saves it going to landfill if someone wants to give it a new home, so I’m not complaining – plus these kind of stalls tend to be cheaper too!
I don’t like to brag about the bargains that I buy at carboot sales because I know that I get grumpy when someone else has snapped up a bargain ahead of me, but I just want to encourage you all to go to your local carboot sale and have a good look around – and take a look a things a second time with a crafty eye – you might not want a small battered box, but would it be useful if it were freshly painted to keep your jewelry in?

I know they might not be to everyone’s taste, but I’m sure you’ll agree that £1 is bargain in anyone’s book!
