The Search for a New Editor (and an Appeal for Contributors)

Posted on the 08 September 2014 by Doughnutmag

Existing subscribers may have noticed that shortly after the site redesign, The Doughnut has gone a bit quiet – yeah, there’s a reason for that.

The Doughnut appeal for contributors

Who is The Doughnut looking for?

The Doughnut is looking for a new team, consisting of an editor and a host of contributors. The current editor (me, Damian) is looking for a new leader to take the wheel, stepping away from day-to-day administration, writing and publishing, and allowing a passionate candidate to take control of the site.

Previous experience is preferred in contributors – Experience is essential for the editor, however, who will need to manage the writers and content, and generally keep the site standing upright. An editorial role requires anywhere from a couple of hours a week to many late nights, depending your own schedule and goals.

Unfortunately the roles are currently unpaid, though there is potential for a new managing editor to ramp up the revenue. Fringe benefits include gig tickets and party invites, free music and the opportunity to get involved in the community.

What is the there to take over and why?

There are thousands of music blogs out there, with many more launched all the time – and, sadly, many closing all the time.

The Doughnut has always aimed to bring like minded contributors together, giving them a platform to work together in a common direction.

Here’s what an editor would be taking over:

  • A near-three year track record, with solid daily and monthly traffic
  • A contact list of a thousand newsletter subscribers, plus a database of artists and contacts
  • A lightweight, modern and mobile friendly website, built on an easy-to-use WordPress CMS
  • Monetisation opportunities though partnerships, advertising and affiliate marketing
  • Presence on social media with reasonable growth
  • The support of a web developer and digital marketing professional

If you’re thinking about starting your own blog, or don’t have the time to manage your own site, then you might be better off applying below.

How can you get involved?
