The Poison Garden by A.J. Banner

By Pamelascott

A woman's idyllic life becomes a deceptive hall of mirrors in a thriller of exquisitely constructed psychological suspense by A. J. Banner, bestselling author of The Good Neighbour.

Elise Watters seems to have it all-a blissful marriage, a gorgeous Victorian home surrounded by lush gardens, and a dream job running her late mother's herbal boutique.

But on the eve of her first wedding anniversary, Elise makes a shocking discovery that turns her life upside down and casts doubt on everything she thought she knew-about her marriage, her friends, and even herself. As she treads into dangerous territory, Elise is forced to wonder: Is her whole future at stake? Or is paranoia getting the best of her?

If she is to believe what she sees, Elise has every reason to fear for her life.

WTF did I just read? Utter tosh. I have another book by the author, The Good Neighbour that I am dreading reading now if this rubbish is anything to go by. I had my suspicions the book would fall short when I saw it was barely 200 pages long. I didn't expect much from a so-called psychological thriller that was so short. It seems I was spot-on. There's nothing about The Poison Garden that actually makes it a psychological thriller. The book had no psychological depth, believable twists and turns, plausible motivations for character's actions. The Poison Garden offers none of these things. The writing was weak and the plot, what there was of it was among the most ridiculous I've ever read. The characters are flat and bland.
