The Point

By Stevemiranda

I got this message from a former student today:

“I have never gotten a chance to tell you that your class marked the transition from selfish ignorance to compassionate consciousness in my life. I didn’t fully notice at the time because not much had changed other than my direction. Respect.”

This is why when people try to tell me that the point of school is to reach the state minimum standards or to gain entrance to a famous college or memorize a bunch of academic facts in order to pass a test, I don’t believe them.
