The Only Worthy and Hopeful News Coming out of DC These Days...

... has nothing to do with politicians and their inability to do their jobs and everything to do with rookie sensation RGIII and the impact he's having for the Skins and the NFL:

Apparently, Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III is impressing in more places than on RGIIIthe field. According to a report from ESPN's Darren Rovell, the rookie's replica jersey has set a mark as the highest-selling in a single fiscal year. The league started keeping track of these metrics, and league spokesperson Joanna Hunter told Rovell that Griffin's No. 10 jersey has already outpaced the previous high-seller -- the Brett Favre replicas from 2008 when Favre was with the New York Jets, and in 2009, when Favre was with the Minnesota Vikings.

More impressive is that the Griffin jersey has outpaced all others in a fiscal year that runs from April 1 through March 31 -- which means that Griffin's jersey has three more months to break its own record.

The NFL would not release official sales numbers from its own website, but sales numbers for Redskins merchandise on Fanatics.com have increased 252 percent over the same span in 2011, spokesman Meier Raivich told Rovell. In addition, the signature RG3 socks sold by adidas have sold out, the company says.

Not bad at $20 per pair.

Though there are some haters out there, clearly there are many who recognize not only the man's football skills but what it is he represents.

It's a feel good story coming out of DC.

A most rare thing.
