The New Lichfield Brewhouse & Kitchen

By Thefoodiecoupleblog

A couple of weeks ago Brewhouse & Kitchen launched a new venue for their brand – near to us in Lichfield. We’d only recently visited their Sutton Coldfield branch for the first time and enjoyed our time there – Lee being particularly taken with the beer selection, so when we were invited to pop down to Lichfield for lunch, we were happy to.

The venue itself on the corner of bird street is large and spacious, with a variety of bench style seating, upturned barrels and your more standard tables too. I like the casual decor with lots of wood and metal features.

A feature of the B&K brand is their in house micro brewerys, and they also offer beer masterclasses and brewery experience days which would make great presents for the beer enthusiast.

It was a Saturday lunch time when we visited and they were filling up fast, so I felt a little sorry for the staff, some of whom it was obvious weren’t quite up to speed, but they were all very friendly and trying hard.

We started with some drinks – Lee chose a 3 sticks American Style Ale – one of the brews that is made in house, while I was intrigued by the ‘Beertail’ list, a collection of cocktails made with beer! They all sounded really interesting, for example the Southern Shandy – Peach whiskey, lemonade, Sam Adams Boston lager. But I went for a Lagarita – A classic margarita made with Blanco tequila topped with Oranjeboom lager. It was pretty strong but I really enjoyed it!

Food wise, the menu was the same as the one we encountered in Sutton Coldfield, so we endeavoured to choose some things we had not had previously. For his starter Lee chose BREADED WHITEBAIT with garlic & hop salt, an IPA cured pickle, homemade tartare sauce. The whitebait itself was decent, and Lee really liked the cured pickle! I went for the B&K WINGS with smokey BBQ sauce. The wings were delicious, juicy and smothered with a really tangy sauce, just how I like them. We liked how the menu has suggestions of what ales and lagers go well with what dishes.

Unfortunately there were a couple of menu items they had run out of, which was a shame as I had wanted to try the Cajun Gumbo. Instead I went for the FUNKY CHICKEN BURGER  – IPA battered chicken breast, mayonnaise, tomato, lettuce and red onion. I enjoyed the batter on the chicken and it was a decent burger but didn’t wow me. A couple of more interesting toppings to it may have spruced tithings up a little.

Lee chose the RACK OF BBQ RIBS – served with skin-on garlic & hop salted fries, buttered corn cobs and slaw. This was a huge plateful of food, and the ribs were really well cooked and tender with a lovely sticky glaze.

We had no room at all for pudding – the portions are very generous!

Child friendly? No issues here – a well rounded kids menu, kids activity packs which Imogen threw all over the floor and decent changing facilities too.

Overall B&K in Lichfield is a great addition to the town, and although I wouldn’t necessarily make a detour for the food, Lee would for the beer, and the food is good pub grub.
