The Nap That Changed My Life – 11 Amazing Aurora Borealis Photos in Alberta

By Kenin Bassart @Constantramble

Last week I did something that changed my life, something I have never done in the past. I took a nap… at 6 o’clock in the evening. I was tired and stressed out and just couldn’t stay awake. My husband warned me that it would turn out to be a mistake, that I wouldn’t sleep through the night, that I would wake up and annoy the crap out of him when it became regular bedtime. I don’t say this often, but “Honey, you were right!” I took a two hour nap and it changed my life… and his.

Take all the naps

I awoke around 8 in the evening and realized I was well rested. There was no way I was going to sleep through the night. I looked out at the clear Alberta sky and thought about going for a drive. I checked the weather and found out that the geomagnetic activity on this night was very high. This mixed with a cloudless night meant one thing to me… there was a chance to see the Northern Lights! My husband lay on the pillow next to me, drifting off to sleep and I shook him. After absorbing the death stare of doom, I enticed him with the promise of late night coffee and donuts. We took a drive out to the countryside with our sugary treats and waited.
