The Italians are superstitious? Some yes and some not, like everywhere else. Most of the superstitions come directly from our ancestors where the science and the knowledge were less widespread than the fear. Whether we believe it or not, however, they are an important element of our past where the families did not have our media and where the superstitions were almost a popular faith.
It is interesting to see what our ancestors believed (and someone believe now) to better understand the popular culture. The superstitions in Italy are numerous, and I begin to introduce one of them.
Much
of the ancient society was based on the agriculture: the level of the education was low and the superstitions arose in front
of what was inexplicable - in some cases the superstition became the rules of the everyday life. So it is
interesting to know the traditions to understand what were the past in Italy.
Let's start with something very special: the
hair.
If by chance you have to cut the hair you should do during the new moon. Why all this?
The moon determined the timing of planting, pruning and collected. The evergreen plants were pruned in the new moon, the grape harvest was made during the waxing moon, the harvesting was done in the full moon, during the waning moon the plants were seeded. It seems that the same ancient Romans believed the influences of the moon, those beliefs were then transmitted to the peasant culture. During the waning moon do not cut hair, the wool sheep, the harvest grapes because the moon does not help the growth of these elements. This reflects a little what was the basis of the magic: the peer acts on the peer and the and what is contiguous acts on the adjacent contiguous. Even today many people cut their hair in new or waxing moon: this is therefore a belief still alive in Italy. As for me ... cut I cut my hair when they begin to be unmanageable and I can not look in the mirror in the morning!
Gli Italiani sono superstiziosi? Alcuni sì ed altri no, come ovunque. Gran parte delle superstizioni arrivano direttamente dai nostri antenati dove la scienza e la conoscenza erano meno diffuse del timore. Che ci crediamo o no fanno parte comunque di un passato dove le famiglie non avevano i nostri mezzi di comunicazione e le superstizioni erano quasi una fede popolare. Quindi è interessante vedere che cosa credevano ( e alcuni credono) per capire meglio la cultura popolare. Le superstizioni in Italia sono numerose quindi, incomincio a introdurvene una. Gran parte della società passata si basava sull’agricoltura, il livello di istruzione era basso e di fronte a ciò che era inspiegabile nascevano le superstizioni che divennero in certi casi delle regole comportamentali da seguire. Quindi è interessante conoscerle per capire quella che erano le usanze di un tempo in Italia. Partiamo da qualche cosa di molto particolare: i capelli. Se per caso dovete tagliare i capelli la credenza vuole che lo facciate durante la luna nuova. Perché tutto questo? La luna determinava il calendario delle semine, raccolte e potature. Le piante sempreverdi erano potate in luna nova, la vendemmia fatta in luna crescente, la mietitura era fatta in plenilunio, con la luna calante si seminavano le piante. Pare che gli stessi antichi Romani credessero sulla influenze della luna, credenze che si sono poi trasmesse alla cultura contadina . Durante la luna calante non si tagliano capelli, lana di pecore, uva della vendemmia perché la luna non influenzi negativamente la crescita di questi elementi. Questo rispecchia un po’ quella che era la base della magia ovvero che il simile agisce sul simile e il contiguo agisce sul contiguo. Oggi ancora molte persone tagliano i capelli in luna nuova o crescente : questa è quindi una credenza ancora viva in Italia. Per quanto mi riguarda…li taglio quando incominciano ad essere ingestibili e non riesco a guardami allo specchio la mattina.
